The beautiful, historic village of Eyam, in the Peak National Park, is most famously known as the Plague Village.
An outbreak of the plague was contained when the villagers decided to isolate themselves from the surrounding communities. Today many of the houses and buildings have special plaques on the outside giving details of their history and the part their inhabitants played in the Plague saga. For more information on the history of Eyam and the Plague visit the Eyam Musuem.
Eyam is a vibrant, active community with many small shops and cafes. The historic Eyam Hall is open to the public and is home to a popular craft centre.
Other events that take place in the village are Well Dressing, a Plague Commemorative Service, annual carnival and sheep roast and an annual village show.
