Officially the greenest city in England, Sheffield has an excellent selection of parks from the stunning Victorian Botanical Gardens to Endcliffe Park and Graves Park. In stark contrast to its industrial past, it is a city of magnificent vistas and award winning horticulture.
However, nowhere will impress you more than the breathtaking Peak District National Park. The first and largest of Britain’s national parks, the Peak District is a place of outstanding natural beauty. Located just 5 miles from the city centre, it’s stunning heather moorlands, dramatic gritstone edges and gentle limestone dales together create a stunning and awe-inspiring scenery.
It is estimated that the Peak District receives an astonishing 22 million visits each year. Just one other National Park in the world receives more visitors than this, but unlike the Peak District, the Mount Fuji National Park in Japan is owned by the nation and virtually uninhabited.
The district’s diverse landscape makes it the perfect location for outdoor activities. Walking, climbing, caving, mountain biking and camping can all be enjoyed in the Peak District and the park’s gritstone outcrops are recognised as some of the finest rock climbing sites in the world.
The area also incorporates the enchanting village of Bakewell, the beautiful village of Eyam and the ‘palace in the peak’, the Chatsworth stately home. With a multitude of excellent pubs and restaurants also situated in the area, it is easy to see why the Peak District is such a popular destination.
