The close proximity to the Peak District provides a perfect location for walkers, climbers and cyclists. The national park attracts climbers from all over the world who come to sample some of the estimated 10,000 recorded climbs. So popular is it as a climbing location, that many climbers have chosen to live in the city and the city now boasts probably the best indoor climbing facilities in the UK.
Every year the city plays host to the World Snooker Championships and English Squash Open as well as British Open show jumping. The city continues to attract international and national sporting events and was also chosen as the location for Channel 4’s popular show ‘The Games’.
