West.One Celebrates Wednesday Night Live!

Published Date: 06 Aug 2009

West. One businesses joined forces last night in support of Wednesday Night Live, creating a true Covent Garden feel in Sheffield city centre. Bars and restaurants created special deals on food and drink, retailers opened their doors after hours, Vodka Revolution provided a tasty barbeque and street performers and magicians entertained the crowds. The event was coordinated by The North Marketing Agency on behalf of Creativesheffield – creators of Wednesday Night Live.

Ben Duong from The North said: ”The event went really well; there was a great atmosphere throughout the plaza, even the weather was nice! Chris Hicks, the Michael Jackson performer was amazing and really entertained the crowds.”

City Estates and West. One were happy to be given the opportunity to be a part of Wednesday Night Live. “As long established committed investors in Sheffield, City Estates & West.ONE are proud to be associated with Creativesheffield” noted Andrea Marsden of City Estates. “Thank you to everyone involved for their support in West.ONE Wednesday making it a great success and hopefully the first of many events.”

The likes of Vodka Revolution noticed a positive effect on trading: “There was a good buzz around West One. We had quite a bit of revenue uplift from it!” noted Hollie McClimens at Vodka Revolution.

Even the likes of Prego (a contemporary furniture retailer) saw direct benefits: “We were really pleased to find that the event did bring in business for us. It gave us the opportunity to meet with our regular customers and for people who had never visited us before to come and browse in a relaxed way” commented Paula Whiteside at Prego.

Brendan Moffett, Director of Strategic Marketing at Creativesheffield, added: “West. One is a hidden gem in Sheffield with a variety of top notch bars and restaurants. Wednesday evening is renowned for being a quiet trading period - hence the creation of Wednesday Night Live to help encourage activity and footfall to support our city centre businesses. We felt that by collaborating through the creation of West. One Wednesday, the businesses there could really benefit from the increased footfall to the area and resultant spend. The event was a huge success and there was a great atmosphere. Thanks to all those who participated and the customers who showed their support. I hope to see more events like this in Sheffield City Centre.”

Wednesday Night Live continues until 16th September with an evening of fashion, food tasting and live music at M&S next Wednesday 12th August in aid of Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, a free circus cabaret performance in the Peace Gardens on 26th August, World Wednesday featuring international, food, drink and music on 16th September, weekly food and drink offers in city centre bars and restaurants, extended retail opening hours at participating retailers, the Millennium Gallery and Winter Garden open until 8pm and £1 fares on First Buses after 7pm.
