Music lovers and city centre workers can prepare for a feast of contemporary music at five40five in February and people interested in the music can learn about the sounds of the concerts in advance by downloading the five40five podcast.
The world class musicians of Ensemble 10/10 perform on 22 February and The Halle Orchestra on 27 February, both at the regular time of 5:45pm in the Ballroom at Sheffield City Hall. Audiences less familiar with classical sounds will welcome the opportunity to hear about some of the performances and discover what to expect at the concerts by listening to the podcast that accompanies the series.
"It was a great idea to accompany five40five with its very own podcast," said Tim Rumboll of Lstn who produced the podcast for Sheffield City Hall. "Our aim was reveal what the concerts are really like to audiences who may not have experienced live classical music before. It's the first podcast that Sheffield City Hall has commissioned and it fitted perfectly with the five40five concept."
By using the rapidly expanding technology the podcast has allowed Sheffield City Hall to talk directly to their audience about the event in a way that's interesting and educational but also entertaining.
"We are pleased to see that people have downloaded the podcast from the City Hall website." said Sheffield City Hall Marketing Manager, Martin Bouchier. "We're keen to make classical music concerts more accessible and whilst the podcast allows people to listen to some of the artists and learn about the music, it also covers FAQs such as, what should I wear and what can I expect at five40five?"
"The City Hall is right on the doorstep of many workers in the city centre so it's easy to go along to after work" said Tim. "I've found the music really interesting and have been surprised with what I've experienced and heard. My background is music and audio production and I definitely feel like I've leant something".
Five40five is designed to attract people interested in different types of music, as the series includes Asian fusion and African drums right through to Mozart and Mendelssohn. The early evening concerts are vibrant and meet the aspirations of the musically curious whilst servicing business groups who can entertain guests at the stylish city centre venue. At £5 per ticket, five40five aims to attract a wide audience in to the City Hall and remove some of misconceptions felt towards classical music
