Sea travel

Although Sheffield is not on the coast, it lies almost halfway between the Humber and Liverpool ports which provide ferry and freight services to Ireland, continental Europe, North America and beyond. Direct road links to Hull and Liverpool ensure that sea trade is an effective transport method for Sheffield companies.

Humber Ports

67 miles from Sheffield, the UK’s busiest port complex offers short sea trade links to Europe, Scandinavia and the Baltic, and long sea trade links all over the world from four port locations around the Humber Estuary. The combined facilities available at Goole, Hull, Immingham and Grimsby offer a wide range of options including inland docks, deep water facility, 24 hour access and night time sailings. Flexible access to the ports is ensured by direct rail connections and inland waterway links to Wakefield, Leeds, Nottingham and Rotherham.

Port of Liverpool

77 miles to the west of Sheffield, the Port of Liverpool handles 31 million tonnes of freight a year from direct road and rail links. Regular shipping routes run to north and south Ireland, United States, Canada, the Mediterranean and West Africa.
