The University of Sheffield is recognised as one of the UK’s leading universities and has a reputation as a centre for world-class research.
In 2000/1 the University of Sheffield was declared University of the Year by the Sunday Times University Guide; the 2007 Guide stated that 'everything that earned it the honour in 2000 remains true', recognising the high standard of research and teaching, and noting the £23million investment in the new library facility, the Information Commons.
The University is ranked six in the country for academic research quality and recently had 29 subjects top-rated for teaching quality, an outcome that was only bettered by two other universities. Over 25,000 students from 116 countries are enrolled and with one of the highest retention rates in the UK, the majority of these students will graduate.
