The landmark Heart of the City project is fundamental to the economic and physical regeneration of the city centre.
Its key objective is to transform the city's commercial heart through the delivery of a mixed-use scheme focused on a high quality office location within an equally high quality environment.
Outputs
- 28,000 sq m of new commercial space
- 161-bed 4/5 star hotel
- 1,635 jobs
- 322 residential units
- 4,300 sq m of improved public realm
- 669 public/private car parking spaces.
Heart of the City incorporates grade A offices, new civic spaces, a prestigious hotel, residential units, leisure facilities and a range of cafés, restaurants and specialist shops. The offices are designed to retain and attract leading service sector companies to the city and the scheme acts as a key link between the Sheaf Valley/Sheffield Station Gateway and the New Retail Quarter.
The public works element of the £200 million project - the Peace Gardens, Millennium Galleries and Winter Garden, all multiple award-winners - form the backdrop for the commercial development, St Paul's Place, which integrates premium office accommodation, shops, restaurants, apartments, car parking, new public squares and St Paul's Hotel with the outstanding leisure and cultural facilities already present. Heart of the City, which has benefited from Yorkshire Forward funding support, scooped several prizes in 2006, landing best commercial development in the Yorkshire Property Awards and the Grand Prix and Creative Land Development titles at the Yorkshire Renaissance Awards.
